In an optimal air compression environment, the energy needed for single-stage pressure transfer equals the combined energy for multi-stage compression. However, real-world factors like coupling power losses, bearing friction, and fluid viscosity cooling lead to higher operational power needs. By reducing the compression ratio per stage, these inefficiencies are minimized. Consequently, the overall power consumption for multi-stage compression is lower than that for single-stage compression.
