In an optimal air compression scenario, the energy necessary for single-stage pressure transfer is equal to the combined energy needs of multi-stage compression. However, real-world conditions present challenges such as coupling power losses, bearing friction, and the cooling effects due to fluid viscosity, all leading to increased operational power requirements. By reducing the compression ratio at each stage, these inefficiencies are minimized.
